What are Flagpole Cleats?

Notice that after every flag ceremony the remaining cable or rope used to raise the flag is wrapped and tied around a particular object attached to the pole? This object is called a cleat, which were first used by sailors. On board, its primary role is to secure the rope of the sail during heavy winds and rains. It has been very effective in keeping the sail, that’s why this concept has been used up on flagpoles as well.

Its shape is likely of a boomerang, having two longs ends so that the rope or cable can be easily wrapped and tightened. And now, it is made from fine materials such as aluminum and stainless steel to make it more durable and long lasting. There are even cleats that are cast in bronze and nylon so that the people wrapping the rope and cable would not injure oneself unlike those sailors in the olden times.

Normally it is bolted on the lower portion of the flagpole because it very convenient since those who’ll be tasked with raising and lowering the flags need not elevate oneself. However if you’re doubtful on the safety of the remaining rope on the cleats, you can always put covers on it. That way it is safeguarded from the hands of those planning to steal the flag or from those who simply just want to make fun out of it. What’s more, you can lock your cleats because these covers come with keys. Check out the cleat of your choice now.
