The United States Armed Forces are composed of the army, the marine corps, navy, air force and the coast guard. Each unit is represented by its own flag and these flags are flown on various occasions and on various ships,bases, camps and military academies. In processions, the order of precedence in displaying military flags starts with the Army Flag followed by the Marine Corps Flag, Navy Flag , Air Force Flags and last is the Coast Guard Flag.
The US army is the largest and the oldest military branch of the United States and is primary responsible for land-based operations.
The US Marine Corps is responsible for providing force projection from the sea to deliver combined arms task forces, working closely with the US Naval forces for training, transportation and logistical purposes. The US navy meanwhile is in charge of all naval operations.
The US Air force represents the aerial warfare branch of the US army. It is the youngest branch of the military formed since it was previously part of the US army until it formed a separate branch in 1947.
The last branch, the US Coast Guard is responsible for the enforcement of maritime law, marine safety, search and rescue operations and port security.
The military branches has their individual military flags displaying their logos to identify one unit from the other.
